Although this is a useful tool to help provide an estimate ahead of time, the actual estimate will be done in person and agreed to prior to the cleaning. This calculator does not constitute a guaranteed price due to certain variables and limitations. For example, one of your rooms or areas may exceed the maximum square footage limit. Other variables include: certain fabrics that cannot be cleaned, or that I am unable to clean, unusual situations that I can’t help you with, like maybe you rebuilt a transmission on your living room floor, these kinds of things happen!
HOW CARPET CLEANERS IN THE INDUSTRY TYPICALLY CHARGE FOR THEIR SERVICES
In this industry carpet cleaning is typically priced by two methods – by the room or area, or by the square footage. Both methods have their pro’s and con’s. If you charge by the room, then it makes it easy to provide an approximate estimate prior to arrival. Unfortunately, if business A charges $65 per room, then business B may charge $55 per room to get the jobs and make it up on volume. This will create a race to the bottom situation in that area, and as the price spirals down generally the quality of service will as well. To get around this, some businesses like to advertise 3, 4, or even 5 rooms for $99 to get in the door, then the customer is told “That was for a basic clean, but for a proper clean it will actually cost $450” for example. Employees that don’t upsell like this will be shown the door.
To avoid all of this, other businesses prefer to charge by the square foot. Sq. foot pricing is technically more accurate, meaning a small bedroom won’t be the same price as a larger family room. However, this means taking the time to measure and tally up all of the footage to be cleaned, then to spring the price on you when you have scheduled a day for cleaning.
